K.I.S.S or not. What is your view?

K.I.S (keep it simple) or K.I.S.S (keep it stupidly simple)

Some feedback we received recently really made me extremely proud of what the team I work alongside do for the goal of improving patient outcomes.

"The exercise has been a success, and Triage-Plus proved to be 'the must-have tool' for managing mass casualty victims. With each iteration, patient organization and distribution keep improving."– Dr. Luís Mendes Cabral, Clinical Director, SRPCBA

But the feedback also included the fact that we should not make the system or process complicated. K.I.S and that familiarity with a tool is essential for its successful use.

Having been on the frontline of mass casualty incidents with significant number of patients, I as I am sure others around the world understand, the cognitive load that is placed on those involved in the response and how the lack of real-time data and communication can change the entire response to these events.

Simplicity, cost effectiveness and familiarity are crucial to any system if it is to be used successfully by any emergency responder.

That is the way we built Triage-Plus Datum to be simple to use, reduce the cognitive load, cheap to own and operate, effectively share information across organisations and most importantly improve patient outcomes.

Saving lives in mass casualty incidents does not need to cost a lot or have high end technology to be successful. (or maybe it does?)Recently discussing these issues with a senior leader in disaster management reinforced that high tech solutions may not always be the right option for what in reality can be a down and dirty and time critical situation.

There is a better way.
